Alekhine's Gun + Hivesmasher

ABC No Rio shows are still all ages. Yet, it seemed like most of us at Saturday's matinee were in our 20's and 30's, aka OLD FARTS. Alekhine's Gun's Jessica Pimental, who by the way is a classically trained NYHC badass, realized this midway through the band's set. She shouted out to all the minors before realizing there were none at the venue. But don't worry, the band still whooped our asses. A mix of hardcore inspiration, black metal riffs and death metal breakdowns, Alekhine's Gun took our guts hostage.Hivesmasher was not much less ruthless than a viking pillager (not the amp). Pig Destroyer who? Like the undomesticated New Englanders they are, they moved in with an airhorn on an iphone, invisible puke and ceaseless weird riffs. Only to abandon us without apology. Thanks.
